Edirne ... More

Edirne that served as the capital of Ottoman Empire for 92 years is adorned with historical structures like palaces. In these works of arts, it is possible to see the most beautiful examples of vitrified tiles and ceramics. Edirne is also a city of mosques, churches and synagogues. Selimiye Mosque is known as a mastership work of Sinan, who was one of the most famous architects of the Ottoman Empire. On the other hand, Great Edirne Synagogue in Kaleiçi is the 2nd largest synagogue in Turkey. Edirne is Turkey’s door to Europe since the city center is only 7 km to Greece and 17 km to Bulgaria. If you happen to visit Edirne, don’t forget to buy handworks named “Edirnekâri” (work of Edirne) that are wood articles decorated with paint.
