Zil Castle
Located at 12km south of Çamlıhemşin district, Zil Castle was built during the reign of Byzantine Emperor Justinian and used by the Empire of Trebizond. After Ottoman conquest of the region, it was used for military purposes as Kale-i Zir for a long period. Zir Castle was constructed on the west bank of Fırtına Creek and consists of eight donjons and a watchtower. It is at an altitude of 750 meters from the sea and 199 meters from the stream bed. Zil Castle is comprised of outer walls, middle walls, and inner walls. Its tower consists of a fourth floor and has arched windows and loopholes. The maintenance, repair, and renovation works started by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism in 2008 have been completed.
